With a strong focus on data-led decision-making and seamless mobile experiences, this team is building out their next-generation data infrastructure, and they’re looking for another Data Engineer to help drive that forward.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the way data flows through a live product used by thousands, while working closely with analytics, engineering, and commercial teams. You’ll be joining a small, high-impact team, reporting to a technical leader with a strong background in applied data architecture.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines to power both internal analytics and customer-facing mobile/web applications
  • Developing robust ETL processes for ingesting and transforming data from a variety of sources, particularly APIs
  • Creating and optimising data architectures to ensure efficient data storage, processing, and retrieval
  • Supporting backend integrations (Python, Django) to ensure clean interfacing between data systems and applications
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across Data Science, Product, Ops, and Commercial to shape data models that meet the needs of a growing business
  • Supporting CI/CD, data versioning, and monitoring to ensure the reliability and accuracy of production pipelines
  • Driving improvements in data access, documentation, and visualisation across the organisation

What They’re Looking For

  • Proven experience designing and maintaining data pipelines in production environments
  • Strong Python and SQL skills; familiarity with frameworks like Airflow, Spark, or similar
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, architecture, and warehousing best practices
  • Comfort working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and infrastructure tools (e.g. Terraform, SageMaker)
  • Willingness to gain intermediate-level backend development skills (especially with Python/Django)
  • Bonus: experience with data lakes, CI/CD, and data quality/versioning tools

Why Data Engineering Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For many years, data engineering in the UK meant designing pipelines, moving data between systems, and ensuring analysts had what they needed. Today, the field is expanding. With cloud platforms, machine learning, real-time analytics and the explosion of sensitive personal data, employers expect data engineers to do much more. Modern data engineering is no longer just about code and storage. It requires legal awareness, ethical judgement, psychological insight, linguistic clarity and human-centred design. These disciplines shape how data is collected, processed, explained and trusted. In this article, we’ll explore why data engineering careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design now influence job descriptions, and what job-seekers & employers must do to thrive.
