The role

As a Data Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll design, build, and sustain systems and architectures that enable the collection, processing, storage, and access of UKA and customer data, delivering robust support for analytics.


Day-to-day, you’ll support the governance and protection of data in use, while contributing to the selection and deployment of new tools and technologies that enhance how we generate, capture, integrate, and process data. You’ll also:



  • Work with the wider business unit to deliver analysis projects, leading on the data collection and management elements
  • Lead the collection, cleansing and plumbing of data from various digital and analogue sources, including the setup of application programming interface (APIs) and automated data extraction from external sources
  • Audit and manage data quality across sources, providing insight on issues and areas for improvement
  • Support the Data Analyst with identifying trends and patterns within large datasets
  • Monitor and manage all respective data infrastructure, pipelines and architectures within assigned projects, including troubleshooting

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is adaptable and can be delivered from various locations including Bristol, Leicester, Devonport, Lyneham, Warrington, Whetstone, London, Wyton and Yeovilton. The role requires regular travel to a range of internal and/or customer sites alongside home working arrangements. This role is a fixed term contract for 52 weeks.


Essential Experience

  • Experience busing and consuming APIs for data integration
  • Experience managing Data Security, Quality and Compliance
  • Experience in Metadata management
  • High degree of competence in using programming languages such as SQL, Java, Python & R
  • Experience using data processing/pipelining tools, such as Spark

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or Engineering, or relevant demonstrable experience, skills and qualifications

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
