Route delivers world-class audience measurement for out-of-home advertising across Great Britain. Our data provides advertisers with precise metrics on not just who is exposed to their campaigns, but who sees them. We\'ve pioneered a world-first by delivering audience numbers for every advertisement broadcast on posters and screens throughout Great Britain.

We are currently in an exciting methodological development phase of building new data models, updated collection methods, and inputs. These advancements will enhance our understanding of how people move around Great Britain and which out-of-home advertisements they see.

Route is a small, highly experienced team and we are looking for a key individual to expand our technical skillset.

What we are looking for:

This is an exciting, unique opportunity to work with a close-knit team within the advertising industry.

The primary function of the role is to design and maintain reliable data pipelines to support our analytical work. However, this is not a traditional data engineering role; you will be expected to wear multiple hats and contribute across the entire data lifecycle and infrastructure stack. Solid Linux/Unix skills are essential, particularly on the networking and server configuration side given that we have our own in-house server. The successful candidate will also have familiarity with basic DevOps concepts, and an understanding of dashboarding and analytical tools.

Everything we do at Route revolves around human behaviour. As such, it is preferable that you too, are human. Ideally, you will also be smart, inquisitive and keen to get things done. You will be part of a small highly collaborative team reporting to and working closely with the CIO, the role will also require you to support the insight team.

Responsibilities
  • Data Quality Assurance: Perform quality assurance and validation checks on our release data sets
  • Automation: Automate all routine data checks, data loading processes, and reporting workflows
  • Data Insights & Tooling: Build internal tools and analytical solutions to extract and surface valuable insights from our proprietary data
  • Reporting & Analysis: Provide direct data analysis to support the insight team, as well as handling customer queries and producing scheduled data extracts and reports
  • Data Visualisation: Create and maintain effective end-to-end data dashboards and visualisations for internal and external consumption
  • Infrastructure & DevOps Support: Apply basic DevOps concepts to maintain services and work across our server and cloud platforms, including contributing to networking solutions
Skill Set
  • Programming & Pipelines: Proven experience building robust ETL/ELT pipelines using any major programming language, with a strong preference for Python
  • Databases & SQL: Extensive experience working with databases, SQL, and data warehouses. Familiarity with Postgres and BigQuery required.
  • Data Ingestion: Experience ingesting and processing data from diverse sources (databases, data warehouses, and external APIs)
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Hands-on experience with an IaC solution, such as Terraform
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years of commercial experience in a relevant role
Nice to have / Highly Desirable
  • Cloud & Server: Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Virtualisation: Familiarity with type-1 hypervisors (Proxmox, XCP-ng)
  • Networking: Experience with Linux networking, with an understanding of firewalls, switches, vLANs, DNS servers
  • Best Practices: Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, code reviews, source management (with Git) and testing
  • Independence: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
