About the Role

We’re looking for a Global Data Governance Manager to lead the development and delivery of a best-in-class data governance strategy across our international business. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how data is managed, maintained, and leveraged across our network — ensuring it becomes a trusted asset that drives insight, efficiency, and confident decision-making.

Working across three core business units and our global SAP S/4HANA platform, you’ll define the standards, policies, and frameworks that underpin data excellence. This is a highly visible role, collaborating with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to embed a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in data management.

Key Responsibilities

Build and Lead the Data Governance Framework
Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive global data governance framework, ensuring alignment across all business functions and systems.

*

Develop Data Policies and Standards
Define and enforce best-practice policies for data creation, maintenance, processing, and lifecycle management — ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance across the organisation.

*

Champion Data Quality
Establish data quality metrics, monitoring processes, and remediation procedures to guarantee reliable, complete, and accurate data. Lead root cause analysis and implement preventative solutions to maintain high standards.

*

Drive System Integration and Performance
Oversee data flows through SAP S/4HANA and its integrated platforms (including MDG, SAP IBP, SAC, and Analysis for Office), ensuring seamless, high-quality data integration across systems.

*

Empower Data Ownership and Stewardship
Define clear roles and responsibilities for data owners and stewards, promoting accountability and supporting teams to manage and maintain high-quality datasets.

*

Collaborate with Purchasing & Supply Chain
Partner closely with Supply Chain and Purchasing teams to optimise key data objects that drive performance — enabling systems like SAP Integrated Business Planning to deliver their full value.

*

Monitor and Report on Data Health
Develop insightful reports and dashboards to track transactional data quality, ensuring information is current, accurate, and actionable.

*

Engage and Educate Stakeholders
Lead regular forums to communicate data governance principles, deliver training, and foster a strong culture of data responsibility across the business.

*

Champion Continuous Improvement
Review and refine the data governance framework regularly, keeping pace with industry best practices and emerging technologies.

About You

You’ll bring both strategic vision and practical know-how to the role, combining deep technical understanding with strong stakeholder engagement skills.

*

Extensive experience in data governance, ideally within a global or multi-site environment.

*

Strong working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA and related data management tools (MDG, IBP, SAC).

*

Proven ability to collaborate, build consensus, and influence stakeholders across functions and geographies.

*

Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.

*

A proactive, continuous-improvement mindset and passion for turning data into a trusted business asset

Why Data Engineering Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For many years, data engineering in the UK meant designing pipelines, moving data between systems, and ensuring analysts had what they needed. Today, the field is expanding. With cloud platforms, machine learning, real-time analytics and the explosion of sensitive personal data, employers expect data engineers to do much more. Modern data engineering is no longer just about code and storage. It requires legal awareness, ethical judgement, psychological insight, linguistic clarity and human-centred design. These disciplines shape how data is collected, processed, explained and trusted. In this article, we’ll explore why data engineering careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design now influence job descriptions, and what job-seekers & employers must do to thrive.

Data Engineering Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Data Engineering Department

Data has become the lifeblood of modern organisations. Every sector in the UK—finance, healthcare, retail, government, technology—is increasingly relying on insights derived from data to drive decisions, deliver products, and improve operations. But raw data on its own isn’t enough. To make data useful, reliable, secure, and scalable, companies must build strong data engineering teams. If you’re recruiting for data engineering or seeking a role, understanding the structure of such a team and who does what is essential. This article breaks down the typical roles in a modern data engineering department, how they collaborate, required skills and qualifications, expected UK salaries, common challenges, and advice on structuring and growing a data engineering team.

Why the UK Could Be the World’s Next Data Engineering Jobs Hub

Data is now the lifeblood of the digital economy. Every industry—healthcare, finance, retail, manufacturing, transport, and government—relies on data to make decisions, power applications, and enable innovation. But raw data is only valuable if it can be collected, processed, cleaned, and made available for analysis. This is the role of data engineering. Over the past decade, data engineering has emerged as one of the fastest-growing areas of technology. Data engineers design and build the pipelines, platforms, and architectures that allow organisations to harness the power of big data, cloud services, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Without them, the data economy would grind to a halt. The United Kingdom is uniquely placed to become the world’s next data engineering jobs hub. With its thriving tech ecosystem, leading universities, strong financial markets, and expanding data infrastructure, the UK already has many of the foundations needed. This article explores why the UK has this opportunity, what is driving demand, the career prospects for professionals, and what must happen for the UK to seize global leadership in data engineering jobs.
