How you'll make an impact:

We are seeking a Senior zTPF Systems Engineer. Our Systems Engineers enhance and maintain the stability of the zTPF complexes by providing high quality technical expertise and guidance for our zTPF platform, operating systems, and database. As a Senior zTPF Systems Engineer, you will work with other zTPF Systems Engineers, zTPF File Support Engineers, Applications Programmers, and Support teams performing daily activities ranging in complexity. You will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance, development, and reliable operation of our zTPF environments. You will own and drive work efforts through all stages of the development, quality, and implementation life cycle. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, talented, technical, proactive person who embraces team culture, challenges, problem solving, and has a proven track record of delivering.

Your role in action:

Provide functional expertise and technical leadership for critical zTPF operating system software and mainframe platform capabilities
Serve as subject matter expert and provide direction to others. Lead small projects and be the key technical expert for larger projects
Design, develop, enhance, and maintain the zTPF mainframe platform and zTPF operating system, including supporting software and utilities to meet Travelport's business requirements
Develop new functionality, integrate IBM APARs, maintain proprietary operating system modifications and utilities
Generate and implement enhancements to improve overall system design and/or streamline delivery of product. Proactively identify opportunities to improve delivery of daily work
Provide operational and production support for Travelport zTPF Systems, including third level support and problem resolution for the production, pre-production, and lower-level testing environments
Technical support interface to Travelport customers for zTPF operating system functions including new functionality proof of concepts and assistance with debugging/problem resolution
Manage and support tools for collecting and reporting on zTPF system management and performance including Data Collection, Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool, Software Profiler, and Continuous Data Collection. Knowledge of Real-time Runtime Metrics Collection a plus
Understand integration and impact on adjacent systems, as well as short and long-term impact of technical decisions
Provide 24x7 on-call availability and support on a rotating basis with other team members

Could this be you?

Proven and current experience developing, deploying, and supporting the zTPF operating system, zTPF database, or TPF communications code and associated infrastructure
Current knowledge of IBM Z hardware and software technologies - architecture, operating systems
Strong z/TPF operating system knowledge with assembler and C/C++ programming languages
Experience with zTPF control program internals, host communications, and/or zTPF file support
Ability to navigate adjacent systems such as z/VM, z/Linux, and z/OS
Working knowledge of zTPF development and testing tools, such as zTPFGI, IBM Toolkit, CP trace, z/Linux, maketpf, VPARS, VTAPE
Knowledge of modern zTPF capabilities a plus - DFDL, REST, Business Events, Kafka, Java, Encryption, and/or Jakarta Mail
Additional programming language/technologies a plus - Java, REXX, OOREXX, Python, Perl, Linux Scripting (Bash, C Shell, Korn Shell, etc.)
Demonstrated strong technical aptitude with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Knowledge of ITIL principles and processes
Self-motivated with ability to multi-task and embrace an ever-changing environment, competing priorities, and high expectations.
Dedication to learning new skills and strengthening existing skills
Commitment to providing mentorship, formal training sessions, and on the job training to teammates
