Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to join our engineering team. You will lead the design, integration, and commissioning of EC&I systems for cutting-edge defence applications, contributing to technically challenging and high-integrity projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design & Development



Lead the design and development of EC&I systems in accordance with defence and client specifications.

*

Produce: Electrical schematics and wiring layouts, Functional control strategies and logic diagrams, Integration of EC&I systems into broader engineering solutions

*

Participate in Design and System-Level Reviews, ensuring all deliverables meet performance, safety, and compliance requirements.

2. Documentation & Compliance

*

Produce and manage key technical documentation: Control philosophies, Design specifications, Cause-and-effect diagrams, Risk assessments, Test and commissioning procedures

*

Ensure compliance with: MOD and Defence Standards (DefStans), IEC / British Standards (BS), Regulatory and cybersecurity frameworks

*

Maintain accurate records for audit and change control.

3. Stakeholder Coordination

*

Collaborate with internal engineers, suppliers, and contractors to deliver integrated EC&I solutions.

*

Lead or participate in design reviews, providing technical insights to improve performance and reliability.

*

Liaise with regulatory authorities and clients to ensure compliance and technical alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

4. Testing & Commissioning

*

Plan and oversee: Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), System commissioning and verification activities

*

Troubleshoot and resolve issues during testing, deployment, and post-installation phases.

5. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

*

Identify opportunities to optimise EC&I architectures, improve energy efficiency, and reduce lifecycle costs.

*

Keep informed of emerging technologies and trends in defence automation, control systems, and software integration.

*

Promote confidentiality, cyber awareness, and best practices in handling sensitive project data.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications & Experience

*

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control & Instrumentation, or related discipline.

*

Proven experience in designing and implementing EC&I systems in defence, marine, or high-integrity environments.

*

Strong knowledge of: Defence Standards (DefStans), IEC, and British Standards (BS), PLC, SCADA, DCS, and SQL Server-based control systems.

*

Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, EPLAN).

*

Excellent problem-solving, report writing, and communication skills.

*

Commitment to quality, safety, and engineering excellence.

Desirable

*

MOD security clearance (or ability to obtain).

*

Chartered Engineer status or working toward professional registration (e.g. IET).

*

Experience in nuclear, subsea, or cyber-secure environments.
