Senior Network Engineer | Full Time, Permanent | Home Based | Up to £60k, depending on experience

We are one of the UK's leading independent hospital groups and the largest in terms of revenue. From our 39 hospitals and 33 clinics, medical centres and consulting rooms across England, Wales, and Scotland, we provide diagnostics, inpatient, day case and outpatient care in areas including orthopaedics, gynaecology, cardiology, neurology, oncology, and general surgery. We also operate a network of private GPs and provide occupational health services to over 700 corporate clients. We are the principal independent provider by volume of knee and hip operations in the United Kingdom.

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for day-to-day maintenance, support and security of all IT Datacentre Network Infrastructure, Firewalls, VPNS, Hospital WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi. You would also be expected to help deliver network solutions that can meet the demands of the business through IT projects and service improvement. Supporting the Senior Technical Architects focussing on network strategy and helping our non-senior network engineers to grow and ensure an effective team. Also, dealing with and resolving all incidents, requests, change, and problem records logged via the service desk management solution, including email to ensure that resolutions are maintained within SLA.

Delivery of service improvement activities and business IT projects on time is critical to supporting the business through evolving change. Assist in prioritising project delivery without compromising BAU activity, both personally and across the team. Regular capacity reviews and proactive maintenance to ensure high levels of service availability are a key responsibility. Identification and recording of business and technical risk and maintaining hardware & software asset inventory via the CMDB.

Key Responsibilities:

To understand the impact that a change will have on existing resource utilisation.
Responsibly providing cover to the Senior Technical Architect - Networks during periods of absence. Such as business activities, annual leave, and sickness.
To identify bottlenecks and propose solutions to resolve them.
To present ideas in user-friendly language to non-technical staff and end users.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
Able to liaise with third party providers to ensure their service provision is met according to existing standards and established SLA.
Able to respond to critical failures and provide viable solutions in a short time scale.
Service delivery and project awareness.
Competent written and verbal communication skills
Willingness to work at hospital, datacentre and office sites when needed, requiring overnight stays if necessary.
Ability to produce and maintain high quality system documentation.
Willingness to be involved in a 24/7/365 on call rota.Key Requirements:

Working knowledge and experience of routing and switching.
Administer, maintain, and deploy switches and routers. Cisco preferred.
Administer and maintain enterprise level firewalls. Check Point preferred.
Conversant with Firewall security principles.
Network Monitoring and Alerting on Performance Thresholds.
VPN (site-to-site and remote access) - design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
Business As Usual activities - keeping documentation & network management systems up to date, investigate and resolve end user issues.
Supporting VoIP Telephony systems. Avaya preferred.
Ability to translate user requests that may contain low levels of technical detail into a series of procedural steps and evaluate the feasibility of the proposal.
Ability to apply principles of Data Governance to requests for data access and refuse unreasonable requests stating the reasons for the refusal.
Ability to perform Technical Risk Assessments for change requests with the option of refusing the change if the identified risk is too high.Desirable:

Minimum 5 years industry experience.
Minimum CCNP or equivalent.
Beneficial technical product experiences:
Check Point Firewalls.
Forescout NAC.
Silver Peak SDWAN.
Avaya VoIP.
Cisco Meraki Wi-Fi.
Cisco AnyConnect Remote Access.
ITIL foundation certification desired.Benefits:
