I'm currently working with a leading technology consultancy delivering a range of complex digital and data projects across the public sector.
They're looking for aSenior Python / Data Engineer to join their growing engineering team in Cardiff.
This role could be a great fit for someone from astrong backend Python / software engineering background who has experience working with data, cloud platforms or data-intensive applications. You don't need to have worked across every area of data engineering - strong software engineering fundamentals are key.
THE ROLE
You'll work as a hands-on senior engineer, designing and building modern data platforms, services and applications for public sector clients.
You'll be involved across the engineering lifecycle, working with Python, cloud technologies, data pipelines and modern software engineering practices. You'll also have the opportunity to work closely with clients and support the development of other engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Developing high-quality, production-readyPython applications and services
- Building and maintaining data pipelines, includingETL/ELT and batch/streaming workloads
- Working with cloud platforms includingAWS, Azure or GCP
- Designing and integrating APIs, databases and data services
- Applying software engineering principles includingSOLID, DRY and TDD
- UsingGit and CI/CD pipelines to maintain code quality and support deployments
- Working with data transformation, cleansing and standardisation
- Supporting modern data architectures includingdata lakes and data warehouses
- UsingTerraform / Infrastructure as Code to build and manage environments
- Implementing logging, monitoring and alerting across production systems
- Working with technologies such asPandas, Pydantic, Airflow, AWS Glue, Docker, JSON and Parquet
- Working alongside data scientists, engineers and multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Supporting and mentoring other engineers and sharing technical knowledge
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're particularly interested in engineers with:
- Strong commercial experience withPython
- A solid understanding of backend / software engineering principles
- Experience working withAWS, Azure or GCP
- Experience withGit, CI/CD and automated testing
- Knowledge of databases and data processing
- Experience building or working with APIs, services or data pipelines
- Understanding ofETL/ELT and data engineering principles
- Experience withTerraform or another Infrastructure as Code tool
- Experience working in modern Agile engineering environments
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Active SC Clearance
