About the role
ClickHouse Private brings ClickHouse Cloud capabilities to Kubernetes environments controlled by customers, from managed Kubernetes in their AWS, GCP or Azure accounts to clusters running on other infrastructure they provide. Today, much of our work focuses on adapting Cloud technology so it can be deployed, upgraded and supported in these environments, including regulated and disconnected deployments.
Our plans also include building software and platform capabilities specifically for ClickHouse Private, such as tools and interfaces for managing ClickHouse clusters. We will reuse Cloud components where they fit and build our own implementations where customer-controlled environments require a different approach. Depending on the deployment model, these components may run in ClickHouse-managed infrastructure, in customer environments, or across both.
You will join a small product engineering team with broad ownership and real architectural influence. The role combines hands-on software development with deep Kubernetes and infrastructure knowledge, from designing production services to making them reliable to deploy, upgrade and support.
What will you do?
Design and build backend services and platform capabilities for ClickHouse Private, combining reusable Cloud components with purpose-built implementations.
Adapt and integrate existing ClickHouse Cloud components for Kubernetes-based deployments in customer-controlled cloud and self-hosted environments.
Build and maintain what customers actually install: Helm charts, Kubernetes operators, and deployment tooling.
Make installation and upgrades boring: build preflight validation, deterministic tooling, health diagnostics, and safe recovery paths.
Build release automation: assemble tested sets of components, define supported upgrade paths, and make failures diagnosable.
Adapt deployments for regulated and network-restricted environments.
Work alongside support engineers on customer deployments and troubleshoot problems in customer-controlled environments.
Turn recurring customer requirements and deployment constraints into reusable product capabilities rather than one-off solutions.
Write the documentation and runbooks customers and our support teams rely on.
About you
You have 5+ years of experience building and shipping production software, including infrastructure or platform systems.
You have strong Kubernetes experience, managed or self-hosted. You are comfortable with Helm and understand how operators and controllers work.
You write and maintain production software. Go experience is preferred; strong experience in another language is welcome if you are ready to work in Go.
You have experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or an equivalent on-premises cloud platform, plus solid Linux and networking fundamentals.
You can debug unfamiliar distributed systems and infrastructure, including across boundaries you do not control.
You communicate clearly in design docs, pull requests, and conversations with support and customer engineers.
You make pragmatic trade-offs, deliver incrementally, and take ownership from design through a supportable release.
Nice to have
Experience shipping software into environments you do not operate: customer sites, on-premises installations, self-hosted products, Kubernetes operators, CSI drivers, or object storage integrations.
Experience with ClickHouse, or with other databases.
Experience with regulated, security-sensitive, or air-gapped environments, including public-sector deployments.
Experience designing and running performance benchmarks for infrastructure or distributed systems.
Security-related experience: vulnerability management, image hardening, secrets management, and internal PKI.
