Overview

On behalf of our client, an award-winning UK-based healthcare technology company, we are hiring for a Backend Software Engineer. The organisation develops AI-powered voice solutions for medical practices and clinics, automating patient calls, managing appointment bookings, and supporting medical triage through conversational AI.

Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to help build and scale the core infrastructure behind an AI voice platform. You will work on real-time systems that manage high volumes of concurrent interactions, integrate with healthcare systems, and orchestrate AI-driven workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable backend services for real-time voice AI systems
  • Build APIs and services that power conversational workflows and integrations
  • Work on event-driven architectures handling telephony, streaming, and AI responses
  • Integrate with third-party systems and external platforms
  • Optimise system performance, reliability, and latency
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, infrastructure design, and engineering best practices

Requirements

  • Strong experience building backend systems with Node.js (5+ years)
  • Proven experience designing scalable APIs and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with real-time or event-driven architectures (e.g. WebSockets, queues, streaming)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Solid understanding of databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)
  • Experience integrating with external APIs and third-party services
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with voice or telephony systems (e.g. SIP, WebRTC)
  • Exposure to AI systems, LLMs, or conversational workflows
  • Experience in healthcare or regulated environments
  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, CDK)
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, and scaling production systems

Where to Advertise Data Engineering Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise data engineering jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and channels that reach Spark, dbt, Snowflake and platform engineering talent. Data engineers occupy a distinct discipline that sits between software engineering, data science and cloud infrastructure — and the strongest candidates identify firmly with the data engineering community rather than with adjacent roles. General job boards consistently conflate data engineering with data analysis, data science and BI development, producing high application volumes but low candidate quality for specialist pipeline and platform roles. This guide, published by DataEngineeringJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise data engineering roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
