Role Profile: Data Engineer
Reporting to: Lead Data Engineer

Background
A rapidly growing specialist (re)insurance organisation is building out its technology and data infrastructure. This role supports the delivery of secure, scalable cloud data solutions, aligning with business and compliance needs.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain cloud-native data pipelines (Azure/GCP)

Implement scalable data management frameworks: observability, validation, lineage

Translate business needs into effective technical prototypes and solutions

Collaborate with stakeholders, data teams, and service partners

Ensure data security, governance, and regulatory compliance

Monitor and optimise cloud resource usage and performance

Automate data lifecycle tasks to improve speed, consistency, and reliability

Support analytics teams with clean, modelled data for self-service tools

Mentor peers, share documentation, and support technical best practices

Integrate infrastructure and data services across cloud platforms

Skills and Experience

Expertise in cloud platforms:

Azure: Data Factory, Synapse, Monitor, ARM

GCP: BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub

Strong knowledge of data warehousing, storage, and modelling

Experience with ETL/ELT processes and performance tuning

Hands-on scripting (Python, PowerShell) for automation

Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)

Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, ARM templates

Working knowledge of data catalogues (Azure Purview, GCP Data Catalog)

Knowledge of GDPR, HIPAA, RBAC, encryption, and auditing

Insurance data familiarity: placements, claims, policies, underwriting

Effective stakeholder communication and delivery focus

Strong project and time management in fast-paced environments

Desirable Tools and Tech

Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Domo

Data governance and metadata management tools

DevOps for data workflows, hybrid/multi-cloud architectures

Monitoring and cost optimisation tools (Azure Monitor, GCP cost tools)

Culture and Conduct

Act as a role model for integrity, professionalism, and teamwork

Uphold all compliance, legal, and internal policy standards

Seek innovation and continuous improvement in all technical efforts
