Senior/ Principal Hydraulic Modeller

Our client, a leader in the water sector, is currently seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Hydraulic Modeller to join their team. This contract role involves working on a variety of projects supporting flood risk, river restoration, and catchment management for both public and private sector clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the development of 1D, 2D, and integrated hydraulic models for rivers, estuaries, and floodplains using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, and InfoWorks ICM (2D).
Carry out flood risk assessments (FRA), flood hazard mapping, and hydrological analysis using ReFH2, WINFAP, FEH, and LowFlows.
Interpret LiDAR, topographical, and hydrometric data to support model development.
Provide technical input into environmental assessments, flood alleviation schemes, and climate resilience strategies.
Prepare high-quality reports and communicate technical findings to clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
Mentor junior team members and review technical work.
Support project management, bids, and client engagement.

Job Requirements:

Degree (BSc/MSc) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or a related field.
Significant experience in environmental hydraulic modelling.
Proficiency in Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, and GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS).
Strong understanding of hydrology and flood risk legislation (e.g. NPPF, SuDS, EA guidance).
Excellent report writing and communication skills.
Experience working with or for the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs), or similar bodies is desirable.
Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE, CIWEM, or equivalent) is a plus.

Desirable Experience:

River restoration, natural flood management (NFM), or habitat enhancement schemes.
Catchment-based approaches and integrated catchment modelling.
Working knowledge of Python or SQL for automating modelling workflows.
Familiarity with BIM or digital delivery tools.
