Our client, an excelling freight forwarding and logistics organisation, with management of regular commercial freight logistics and specialising in providing comprehensive services for the movement of high niche market products, are looking to recruit a talented Technology & AI Projects Manager to be based at offices in the London Heathrow area.

    Main Purpose of the role:
    Our client is embarking on a multi‑year digital transformation. Implementing new EDI/API connections, enhancing our Transport Management System (TMS), launching an AI‑enabled customer portal, and embedding data‑driven decision‑making across the organisation. Reporting to the CEO (and dotted line to COO / Head of IT) The Technology & AI Projects Manager will own and deliver these initiatives, acting as the bridge between business stakeholders, in‑house developers, and external technology partners.
    Key Responsibilities for the Technology & AI Projects Manager:
    Project Leadership & Delivery
  • Plan and deliver end‑to‑end technology projects (EDI, API, AI, TMS, customer portal) using Agile/Hybrid methodologies.
  • Define scope, objectives, timelines, budgets, and success metrics; track progress via agreed KPIs.
    Technical Oversight
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications; review solution architecture and ensure alignment with best practices.
  • Guide teams working with JavaScript (Node.js/React), cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), and data formats (JSON, XML, ANSI X12, EDIFACT).
    Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Select and manage external vendors/SIs; negotiate contracts and SLAs.
  • Facilitate communication between Operations, Sales, Finance, and IT to ensure solutions meet operational needs.
    AI & Data Innovation
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI/ML (e.g., predictive ETA, dynamic pricing) and coordinate POCs into production.
    Governance & Compliance
  • Champion security, data privacy (GDPR), and industry standards; maintain comprehensive project documentation.
    Budget & Resource Management
  • Own project budgets (£1‑5 m range); forecast resource needs; drive cost/benefit realisation.
    To Be Considered
  • Experience: 7+ years in technical project/program management or product ownership within a fast‑paced technology environment; prior logistics exposure desirable but not essential.
  • Track record: Successful delivery of complex system integrations (EDI/API) and customer‑facing web applications; exposure to AI/ML or data‑science‑driven products.
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Certifications: PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile/Scrum (CSM/PSM) strongly preferred.
  • Integration: EDI (ANSI X12, EDIFACT), REST/GraphQL APIs, OAuth2, Webhooks
  • Languages & Frameworks: JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js, React), Python (for data/AI), SQL
  • Cloud & DevOps: AWS/Azure/GCP services, CI/CD pipelines, Docker/Kubernetes
  • AI/ML Tooling: Familiarity with cloud AI services (SageMaker, Vertex AI, Azure AI) and ML lifecycle management
  • Data: Relational & NoSQL databases, data modelling, ETL/ELT, BI tools
  • Strategic thinker with commercial acumen; can link technology to bottom‑line impact.
  • Inspiring leader who builds high‑performing cross‑functional teams.
  • Exceptional communicator able to translate complex technical issues for non‑technical audiences.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change.
