My client is an established and fast-growing e-commerce business based in the heart of Leeds. Over the past few years, they’ve invested heavily in digital transformation and are now entering a new phase of growth — building a modern, data-driven foundation to power decision-making across every part of the business.

They’re now looking for an experienced Data Engineer to help design and implement their new data environment from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to shape the architecture, tooling, and best practices within a company that’s genuinely open to new ideas and technology choices.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Technology, you’ll be responsible for building and maintaining the company’s data infrastructure and pipelines. This is very much a greenfield environment — the business is currently operating on a serverless setup with plans to implement Snowflake as their data warehouse and lake.

You’ll play a key role in designing and deploying the data architecture, integrating data sources, and helping the business get more value from its data. The role will suit someone comfortable working independently and guiding the early stages of data platform implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and manage scalable data pipelines and integrations between core business systems.
  • Lead the implementation of Snowflake as the central data warehouse/lake.
  • Work with third-party providers and internal teams to ingest, transform, and structure data effectively.
  • Replace and modernise existing integrations (e.g. Celigo) using tools such as Boomi or similar platforms.
  • Establish best practices for data governance, quality, and security.
  • Partner with stakeholders across technology, marketing, and operations to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights.
  • Support the move toward a more automated, analytics-led environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer within a modern data or cloud environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT pipeline design and data modelling.
  • Experience with Snowflake (or similar cloud-based data warehouse solutions).
  • Familiarity with integration and automation tools such as Boomi, Celigo, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a serverless or modern cloud environment.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with Python or another scripting language for data processing.
  • Understanding of data governance, quality assurance, and performance optimisation.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills — comfortable shaping strategy as well as delivering hands-on work.

Location & Working Pattern

This role is based in Leeds city centre, with hybrid working (1–2 days per week onsite).

Why Apply?

  • Join a business at the start of its data transformation journey — with the freedom to influence architecture and tooling decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with a supportive and forward-thinking technology leadership team.
  • Work in a culture that values autonomy, innovation, and long-term impact.
  • Competitive salary (£60,000–£75,000) plus benefits and flexible hybrid working.

Where to Advertise Data Engineering Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise data engineering jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and channels that reach Spark, dbt, Snowflake and platform engineering talent. Data engineers occupy a distinct discipline that sits between software engineering, data science and cloud infrastructure — and the strongest candidates identify firmly with the data engineering community rather than with adjacent roles. General job boards consistently conflate data engineering with data analysis, data science and BI development, producing high application volumes but low candidate quality for specialist pipeline and platform roles. This guide, published by DataEngineeringJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise data engineering roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
