️ Mechanical Design Layout Engineer

Basildon, Essex | Permanent, Full-Time | £40,000 – £45,000 DOE

Are you a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys creating detailed system layouts and collaborating across departments? We’re looking for multiple engineers to support the design and layout of complex machinery and production lines — bringing clarity and technical precision to high-value projects.

This is a hands-on technical design role, ideal for someone with experience using AutoCAD and a solid understanding of mechanical systems such as conveyors, ducting, or pipework.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Producing 2D layout and service access diagrams for machinery and systems

Updating and maintaining mechanical design documents throughout projects

Conducting or supporting site surveys and translating site data into layout plans

Assisting project managers and customers with technical queries during planning and assembly

Collaborating with electrical and automation teams to ensure system alignment

Using AutoCAD, Inventor, and Vault to manage design files and drawings

Working to BS 8888 standards for technical drawing and documentation

✅ What We’re Looking For:

Level 3 qualification or higher in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering

Proficient with AutoCAD (2D essential, 3D a bonus)

Strong understanding of mechanical layouts (e.g. conveyors, airflow systems, bearings, or belt mechanisms)

Experience working on production machinery or capital equipment layouts

Comfortable interpreting and producing technical drawings and schematics

Good attention to detail and ability to maintain drawing accuracy across project stages

Nice to Have (But Not Essential):

Familiarity with Vault and/or Inventor

Experience supporting installation or commissioning projects

Exposure to regulated sectors (e.g. pharma, explosive environments)

Salary between £40,000 and £45,000 (DOE)

23 days holiday + 2 discretionary days + bank holidays (includes Christmas shutdown)

Flexible working hours: core hours 09:00–12:30 and 14:00–16:00 with a 37.5-hour week
