Milk Education are working in partnership with an SEN college which supports learners with complex needs, particularly Complex SEN and PMLD. This role is based in a special education provided in Lambeth and will be long term for the right educator.

This is an opportunity to start in September and 8:30-16:00.

There are looking for specialists in supporting learners with:

  • Down syndrome

  • Challenging behaviour

  • Complex needs

This full-time position commences as soon as the successful candidate is able to start.

    The Role: Teaching and Learning Support Assistant - SEN

    As an Teaching and Learning Support Assistant - SEN, you're more than an educator – you're a guiding light, illuminating the path for young people with learning disabilities, Autism, and complex care requirements. Under the mentorship of a dedicated class teacher, you'll lead the way both in group settings and through personalized 1-1 interactions. Your unwavering presence and unwavering dedication will be instrumental in nurturing growth and fostering a thriving learning environment.

    The role and responsibilities:

  • To assist in the educational and social development of learners under the direction of the support managers and curriculum team leaders
  • To support the development of self-advocacy and independent learning skills of learners.
  • To contribute to the assessment of students’ learning and personal progression, working with relevant members of staff to contribute to the development of person-centred support plans.
  • To provide support and assistance to learners for their personal care, safety and well-being.
  • To anticipate barriers to learning and participation, develop intervention strategies to minimise difficulties.
  • To gain a thorough knowledge of and be sensitive to, the learner’ needs and learning objectives while on their study programme.
  • To ensure learners are able to access and fully utilise College support services and facilitate and participate productively in College life.
  • To ensure that specialist equipment, assistive technologies and/or facilities are available and operational where necessary.
  • To ensure learners with additional physical/medical needs have access to supervision and support as necessary.
  • To ensure any mobility problems within the building and other safety issues in line with College Health and Safety guidelines are reported to support managers
  • To assist in the review of learners’ progress in line with College policies and ensure individual support plans are updated, and teaching staff are aware of any barriers to learning.
  • To liaise, when necessary, with outside agencies e.g. parents, key workers etc and forward information on to support managers.
  • To attend meetings and trainings as and when required.
